Medical Category Council

The Medical Category Council oversees and directs strategic procurement and sourcing activities by Queensland Health category leads relating to the spend on medical goods and services across the Queensland public health system.

The Council:

  • guides and endorses category strategies, methodologies and initiatives designed to optimise procurement practices across the health system
  • fosters collaboration and co-design
  • delivers outcomes and benefits consistent with the Queensland Procurement Approach and the five strategic procurement pillars.

Decision-making authority

The Council will endorse matters by agreement (by a majority of members attending a meeting) in relation to procurement activities within the Medical Goods and Services Category and for the wider health system.

The Council will make recommendations to the relevant delegated authority within Queensland Health for final approval.

The Chair must approve requests to make a presentation to the Council.

Presentation shouldn't be longer than 20 minutes, including question time.

Industry reference group/approach

The Council has an established industry reference group that:

  • promotes closer working relationships with industry representatives
  • provides an opportunity for industry input into the system-wide procurement of medical goods and services.
