Strong cultural capability shows respect and delivers better services.
Strengthen relationships with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples
The Queensland Government is committed to reframing its relationship with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Under the Public Sector Act 2022, agencies must:
- recognise the importance of self-determination for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- foster a culturally capable workforce and a culturally safe workplace.
To support this work, some agencies must develop and publish a Reframing the Relationship Plan. The plan must show how the agency will build cultural capability when giving advice to government and delivering services to the community. Agencies must review and audit their progress against the plan each year. Guidelines 448.8 KB) are available to help agencies create their plan.
Agencies that do not need a plan must still meet their duties under Part 3 of the Act. They may also choose to create a plan.
