On Tuesday 14 June 2022, the winners of the first ever Buy Queensland Buyer Awards were announced at a ceremony held at the State Library of Queensland.

The awards recognise and reward the hard work and determination of procurement practitioners across Queensland Government who have demonstrated excellence and achieved positive outcomes for Queenslanders.

There were 6 highly commended award recipients and 7 winners were selected across four award categories. The award winners were:

Excellence in delivering on the objectives of the Queensland Procurement Award

Jose Puttanani from the Department of Resources for his strategic, flexible, innovative and collaborative work on the Abandoned Mines Lands Program which resulted in improvements to the environment.

Excellence in Procurement Award – Small team

The Brisbane Flood Recovery team from the Department of Transport and Main Roads for their quick, skilled emergency procurement response during the February 2022 floods.

Excellence in Procurement Award – Large team

The QBuild South East Queensland Procurement team from the Department of Energy and Public Works for supporting high-level procurement and cultural changes.

Excellence in Procurement Award – New entrant to procurement

Rebecca Vickers from the Department of Resources for her procurement work associated with maintaining abandoned mines, particularly her key role in the procurement of suppliers.

Excellence in Procurement Award – Leadership

Lee Witchard from the Department of Energy and Public Works for his exemplary work in Modern Leadership in Procurement which enhanced the use of business intelligence, client and branch dashboards, and automation tools.

Excellence in Procurement Innovation Award

Casper White from the Department of Energy and Public Works for his innovative approach which resulted in a simplified, diverse, and locally focused, whole-of-government supply arrangement for uniforms and personal protective equipment.

Deputy Director General’s Award for Procurement Excellence

The winners of the prestigious Deputy Director General’s Award for Procurement Excellence were Andrew Friend and Jose Puttanani from the Department of Resources for their collaborative work to enhance the participation of local and small and medium enterprises in the Abandoned Mines Lands Program.

The awards not only showcased excellence in procurement but also highlighted the key role procurement practitioners play in the delivery of important services to our Queensland communities while ensuring best value for money and supporting the Buy Queensland approach.
