Buying ICT products and services

When buying ICT products and services, you should focus on getting the best overall outcome, working collaboratively with advice from procurement, architecture, security, privacy, and investment expertise.

Where to start — leverage common use supply arrangements

Before starting a new procurement process see if an existing ICT arrangement is available on the Queensland Government Arrangements Directory. Using an existing arrangement is often quicker, easier and more cost effective, and aligns with Queensland Procurement Policy. Common use supply arrangements must be used; purchasing outside a relevant arrangement must be reported in accordance with the Queensland Procurement Policy.

If there is no suitable arrangement use the Queensland Information Technology Contracting (QITC) framework. The framework is designed for all levels of cost, complexity, and risk.

Establishing arrangements and category governance

Before establishing, varying or extending any common-use supply arrangement you must get ICT Category Council endorsement.

To obtain ICT Category Council endorsement email ICTCMS@chde.qld.gov.au.

ICT category management

The Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business is the lead agency, responsible for enabling the procurement lifecycle by setting direction, providing tools and insights, and supporting agencies to deliver value.

ICT sub-categories include:

  • ICT services (including cloud-based technologies)
  • software
  • hardware (including office equipment)
  • telecommunications.

The ICT Category Management and Sourcing team provide secretariat support to the ICT Category Council, working collaboratively with the  ICT Industry Reference Group (ICTIRG).
