The Queensland Interpreter card makes it easier for you to determine whether your customer needs an interpreter.
All Queensland Government and government funded community organisations can order a card by emailing MAQ@dlgrma.qld.gov.au.
Giving the card to your customer
- Make sure you know the customer’s language/dialect.
- Write the name of the language used by the customer clearly on the front of the card in English.
- Give them the card and explain how to use it (you may need an interpreter to help with this).
If your customer presents a card
Contact the interpreter service provider and ask for a National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) Professional or Paraprofessional level interpreter who speaks the language shown on the interpreter card.
An interpreter poster is available to display in your reception area or on your front counter so customers can see that interpreter services are available. This poster has been translated into Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Italian and Arabic.
The staff card is available to help you work with interpreters and indicate to customers that interpreter assistance is available.
Order your staff cards and posters by emailing MAQ@dlgrma.qld.gov.au.
