Emergency Management & Coordination Command (EMCC)

As you may be aware, the functions and staff of disaster and emergency management are transitioning from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) as of 30 October 2023.

As a result of this transition, the QPS has created the Emergency Management & Coordination Command (EMCC). QPS has been working closely with the Reform Implementation Taskforce (RIT) and QFES in the background to ensure disaster management functions and staff are ready to go-live for the 2023 disaster season.

The EMCC is comprised of a skilled team of disaster and emergency management professionals. Three different arms of the EMCC will each support a different function of disaster management. These include:

  • Disaster Operations
  • Capability Development and Assurance
  • Strategic Directorate

The executive leadership team include:

  • Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus
  • Chief Superintendent John Bosnjak, Operations Commander,
  • Ms Jane Zsombok, Director, Strategic Directorate,
  • Superintendent Rob Graham, Disaster Operations, and
  • Superintendent Josef Jaramazovic, Capability Development and Assurance.

All EMCC executive leadership come from experienced operational and strategic backgrounds in policy, planning as well as disaster and emergency management.
