No degradation of service – Business as usual arrangements will continue

We’d like to reassure all 47 staff that are transitioning over to the QPS on 30 October that nothing about your day-to-day tasks will be changing when you transition.

Current feedback suggests that there is a misconception that as of 30 October, transitioning staff will move premises and not continue to have access to QFES systems. This is incorrect. If you are hearing otherwise, we ask that you contact QFES senior leadership, the RIT or alternatively forward a copy of this newsletter for clarity.

The only changes transitioning staff will notice is with email domains (which will change to @police.qld.gov.au address), payroll switchover, and reporting lines. All other elements will remain as business as usual.

Business arrangements are being put in place for transitioning staff to continue to utilise current arrangements and/or systems. Physical items that are required to do everyday business (examples listed below), currently acquired from QFES, will continue to be utilised.

​Accommodation

Unless you have been personally briefed from the RIT or QPS EMCC, transitioning staff won’t be physically moving offices or desk when transitioning.

ICT

Transitioning staff will continue to utilise their current ICT hardware and/or software.

  • All current hardware (computer, phone, etc) and software will transition to QPS
  • Current SDCC computers/logins will not change
  • Current printers/copiers will be available for use.

Cars

Until further notice, transitioning staff will continue to use fleet vehicles to perform duties, as per current arrangements.

Leave

Queensland Shared Services (QSS) confirmed last week that all future leave currently entered in the QFES payroll will transition to QPS payroll.

We are waiting for confirmation on what the QPS involvement would be for future leave requests, prior to the transition. We will provide further guidance in future newsletters, once we have an answer to this.
We recommend that any transitioning staff currently with leave approved within the QFES system take a screenshot of the approved leave and retain their approval of leave email. This is a precautionary measure only, to verify the leave approval, in the event of any errors during the transfer.

Corporate Cards

If you are transitioning and currently use/hold a corporate card with QFES, the QPS will issue a replacement card. However, you will need to complete the nominated bank’s application form (eg, Commonwealth) and the QPS conditions of use.

Depending on your location, collection options will include:

  • Located around the Brisbane area – Corporate cards will be available for pick up (details to be shared)
  • Regional staff – Corporate cards will be posted directly to you.

There will not be a requirement to repeat the corporate card training as QPS Finance will recognise training already undertaken with QFES. The affected staff will be provided with the required forms and advised in due course of when they can begin this process.

EMCC Update

Mr Ben Marcus has commenced his new role as the Assistant Commissioner of the Emergency Management Coordination Command (EMCC). The EMCC Organisation Structure has been proposed for senior approval and further advice will be available in the coming weeks.

Union Engagement

Amanda Rosman (DM A/BRC) and Brianna Brown (Project Manager – QPS Reform) met with the Together Union and your delegate Ashley Pringle (ashley,pringle@qfes.qld.gov.au) last week to discuss the transition and how it will impact members.

We will continue to work alongside the unions with a fortnightly meeting arranged with the union delegates.
