Cyber security development for executive leadership

We offer 2 professional development sessions for executives. Both sessions are aimed at executives in classification levels SO and above.

Executives from Queensland Government departments, statutory authorities, councils, and government-owned corporations are eligible to apply. Elected officials are not eligible for this program.

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) delivers 2 online programs for Queensland Government executives:

  • Cyber for the Board
  • Cyber Governance and Cultural Overview.

Designed for the Queensland Government, this session includes an interactive case study to  help you understand how to apply cyber security governance in your agency. It explains the key role senior executives play in managing cyber risks as the threats evolve and offers practical tips for keeping your organisation secure.

The learning objectives, outcomes and strategic intent of the workshop are:

  • Help directors identify cyber risks, threats and opportunities to develop a strong cyber strategy that balances risk and readiness.
  • Provide an understanding of cyber threats and actors, and how to set up effective risk management and frameworks.
  • Explore strategies for cyber response, crisis management, principles and notifications.
  • Explain the board's role in cyber governance to help members manage their responsibilities effectively.
  • Clarify key terms and concepts in cyber security, guiding the organisation’s strategy by balancing threats with innovation.

About the session

This session explains the roles and responsibilities of directors and boards in establishing cyber governance and building a cyber culture. It will equip board directors with the knowledge and skills they need for effective cyber governance in their organisations.

The learning objectives, outcomes and strategic intent of the workshop are to:

  • explain cyber security and what it means for boards and directors
  • outline the roles and responsibilities of directors
  • identify questions you should ask to understand cyber exposure and how to mitigate these risks
  • explore the board’s role in developing a cyber safe culture.
