Queensland Local Government cyber security community of practice

The Queensland Local Government community of practice (CoP) aims to:

  • provide a collaborative centralised knowledge base for document and artifact sharing including policies, procedures, work instructions, strategies, and governance documentation focused on local government uplift
  • provide a dedicated space for inter-council collaboration, networking and interactions amongst Queensland local government cyber security and digital technical and governance professionals to foster a community and:
    • an online platform to ask questions
    • discuss current trends
    • offer assistance and advice
    • share progress in uplifting council security posture
    • highlight opportunities for sector improvements and uplift
    • cyber security technical capability and leadership.
  • maintain a list of Queensland Local Government cyber security and digital practitioners to assist with inter-council collaboration and mutual assistance in cyber security management and maturity uplift
  • updates on Queensland Government Cyber Security Unit (CSU) technical services, tools, and platforms
  • provide an opportunity for council cyber security and digital professionals to engage with State and Federal counterparts to aid in cyber maturity uplift.

The delivery platform for CSU CoPs is GovTeams Official, which Teams platform delivered by the Australian Government and is free for all Australian Government staff to join. This CoP is run as per the annual schedule.

The Queensland Local Government GovTeams Platform is co-managed by seven Queensland Local Government security professionals alongside Queensland CSU and, funded by the CSU.

Membership to this CoP is voluntary and is open to all Queensland Local Government cyber security and digital professionals and practitioners and those responsible for supporting cyber and information security uplift in councils.

Outcomes

To promote awareness and increase cyber security maturity across all Queensland Government entities and grow the local government cyber security community.

Meeting frequency

Meetings are held on a 6 monthly basis, interleaved with Australian Cyber Security entre (ACSC) local government forums.
