Frequently asked questions - LEAD4QLD assessments

How should I approach the assessments?

Be yourself. Don't overthink it. Remember, we are capturing insights about you in your role at this point in time. We all have our strengths and areas for growth. Enjoy the experience.

What is a structured conversation?

A structured conversation is an interview with a twist. It consists of 2 sections:

  1. You will have the opportunity to present your ideas and an appropriate action plan based on a fictitious scenario (don't worry, you will have preparation time!). You will be asked at the end of the conversation to clarify and probe particular points.
  2. You will respond to behavioural based questions, which gives us insight into your capabilities based on your past experiences.

What is an interactive engagement?

An interactive engagement requires you to read through information in respect to a fictitious scenario, prepare a response, and interact with a trained assessor. These engagements provide a robust opportunity to demonstrate different capabilities from Leadership competencies for Queensland.

Why assess my personality and/ or work style?

Participating in a personality assessment is a great way to discover your preferred work approach—this approach enables or potentially inhibits the impact you want to achieve. Insights from this assessment are integrated with your other results to provide you robust understanding of your current strengths and development opportunities.

Why assess my problem solving capacity?

Participating in a problem solving assessment provides you with a better understanding of how you approach ambiguous problems in your role. Understanding your preferred approach and capacity enables you to develop appropriate strategies to better manage some of the complexities you experience on a day-to-day basis.

What is a 180 degree feedback assessment?

A 180 degree feedback assessment is an opportunity for you to receive feedback and self-reflect on your current performance. This assessment is conducted against specific capabilities and gives you the opportunity to contrast your own views with those of your manager.

Who has access to my results?

Your personal information and LEAD4QLD assessment results may be seen by:

  • Queensland public sector chief executives, chief human resources officers and/or delegated officers
  • your supervisor
  • relevant Public Service Commission and Hudson Talent Management staff.

Your results will inform development and talent management initiatives at individual, agency and sector levels.

How long does the process take end to end?

The assessment experience should be completed within 2 weeks of your initial welcome by Hudson Talent Management. From there, your results are integrated into a tailored leadership insights report, ready to present to you during your coaching session. Timeframes vary depending on the scheduling of your coaching session, which will be arranged as best suited to your availability.

What happens if I cannot make it to my scheduled activities?

Significant coordination is involved in scheduling LEAD4QLD participants across the Queensland public sector. Hudson Talent Management will endeavour to accommodate reschedules with advanced notice (e.g. 1 week), however there is a firm cancellation policy in place. Withdrawal from the process and rescheduling anything with less than 24 hours' notice will attract cancellation fees to your agency. We understand that situations outside of our control can occur (e.g. significant personal or medical event) and these will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What happens after my coaching session?

After your coaching session, we encourage you to take the time to reflect on your results and put 'pen to page' to evolve your development priorities through clear and tangible goals. Leveraging on the job support is really important in this process to continue the momentum you have started.

We strongly encourage you to schedule a time to work through your results and insights with your supervisor. Additionally, your agency's HR team can help guide your next steps, as well as the Public Service Commission who have a suite of options to develop your skills and leadership.

The LEAD4QLD App will support you with your development journey, and provides you with an abundance of tip sheets, on-the-job activities and information to help you develop these critical leadership behaviours in your role.
