QSS's Single Touch Payroll gets underway

Published 04/12/2018

The way we report payments and withholding tax to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will change from 1 July 2019.

Single Touch Payroll (STP) legislation requires employers with more than 20 employees to report payments such as salaries and wages, pay as you go (PAYG) withholding and superannuation to the ATO each time an employee is paid.

We will continue to report and pay employees’ superannuation entitlements through SuperStream.

For PAYG withholding, and salaries and wages, QSS's STP project is partnering with other areas of HPW (e.g. Building Policy and Asset Management) and QSuper to design and develop the reporting requirements for QSS to report on your behalf.

How are we approaching this?

The project team are running regular working group meetings with stakeholders. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss progress, next priorities, raise issues and risks, and seek clarification.

The team has also established relationships with Queensland Health and Queensland Treasury, who are managing their own STP implementations. These relationships will allow the team to leverage learnings from both agencies to inform their strategy and decisions.
