From 1 April 2023, if you have a primary accumulation superannuation account, you’ll have the option to reduce your employee super contribution.

This is part of a suite of superannuation changes for Queensland Government employees that will come into effect in full on 1 July 2023.

Employees with a primary defined benefit superannuation account are not impacted.

How do I change my employee superannuation contribution?

If Queensland Shared Services (QSS) is your agency’s shared services provider, follow the steps below to use the Self Service Centre to change your superannuation contributions.

If you’re salary sacrificing your superannuation, contact your salary packaging provider before requesting any changes by QSS.

  1. Go to the Self Service Centre and select the Contact us form.
  2. Select Payroll (timesheets, leave, pay, superannuation) from the ‘What do you want help with' drop-down.
  3. In the Description field, explain the change you would like to make to your employee superannuation contribution and the new applicable percentage.

When will my request be processed?

All requests received before 5pm on Thursday 6 April 2023 will be processed in the first full pay in April (either fortnight ending 21 April, or fortnight ending 23 April 2023 depending on your agency).

If you submit a request after this cut-off, it will be processed in the relevant future pay fortnight. Refer to your agency’s pay calendar for fortnightly pay dates.

All other superannuation changes

Any other changes up to 30 June 2023 under existing superannuation arrangements should continue to be completed by submitting the relevant QSuper or Choice of Fund form, or by submitting a written request through the Self Service Centre.
