About

Public policy management and notions of effective policy tend to focus on efficiency, cost-benefit analysis, or satisfying the preferences of key stakeholders. ‘Values’ are not usually articulated in technocratic discourses, even if they are implicit.

Integrating values systematically and reflectively in one’s thinking and deliberations can however enhance good policymaking. It enables governments to more consciously weigh longer term outcomes, better ascertain who is affected by a social process or decision, and more creatively empower citizens and communities. It is also essential to good leadership.

In this masterclass, political philosopher and public policy strategist, Dr Vafa Ghazavi, will emphasise how to create ethical capacity in organisations and incorporate values in the making and implementation of public policy.

At the end of this masterclass, participants will have a better understanding of how they can integrate ethical judgments and commitments into the practice of leadership and solving public problems.
