Queensland Government employees have automatic legal protection from civil liability when acting in their official capacity, under Section 26 of the Public Service Act 2008 (PDF, 1.17MB).
This applies if you were acting in good faith without gross negligence.
Under the Queensland Government indemnity guideline, you can receive indemnity and legal assistance if you are involved in work-related criminal proceedings, civil proceedings, inquiries, and investigations. You do not need to apply for indemnity and legal assistance if you are sued.
You are still accountable for your actions: the government can recover funds or withdraw support from employees where they have, for example, not acted in good faith, been grossly negligent or been found guilty in a criminal proceeding.
