The ongoing usefulness or significance of records to both the organisation and the state based on the evidential, administrative, financial, legal, informational and historical values.

The value of a record can be used to justify a retention period or disposal action in a retention and disposal schedule. It can also help identify which records are vital, important, non-essential, or useful to the business, particularly in regards to business continuity planning.
