Migration

The process of moving digital records or data from one system, storage medium, hardware or software configuration to another, or from one generation of computer technology to a subsequent generation, while maintaining the authenticity, integrity, reliability and usability of the records.

Migration can be a form of digital preservation to ensure continued access to the digital records and information as the system or storage medium becomes obsolete, unsupported or degrades.
